The key to being a fabulous date is taking a genuine interest in the person sitting right there in front of you. OK, I will admit you may realize in the first ten minutes of date Number 1, that this guy is not for you. However, linger a minute before you lunge for the door. You are spending some time together — you might as well attempt to make it an enjoyable, learning experience. No one appreciates insincerity, so stay within the realm of possibility and try to learn something about your date. You may be surprised by his kindness, honesty, compassion, intelligence, innate ability and/or great sense of humor. You may even find remarkable areas of common interest. I once found that the talented guy who recorded my relaxation CDs loved the same obscure movie I secretly adored. The odds were thousands to one against that particular shared obsession. We could quote favorite lines from our silly, unexceptional movie — verbatim.

Get to know your date as a person before you give up and head home bemoaning your rotten luck with dates. Caring kindness, a lively interest and curiosity are exceptionally attractive traits–practice them-you just never know… If nothing else, we can always use another friend.
